The same magnificent splendor of Mount Desert Island, which attracted its earliest settlers to Somesville in the 1700's, awaits every traveler visiting our several villages today. The Town of Mount Desert is comprised of the villages of Otter Creek, Seal Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Somesville, Hall Quarry and Pretty Marsh, all of which are served by one central government. Minimal commercialization has preserved the rural charm of our quaint villages, and that, combined with the spectacular natural arena of Acadia National Park, provides visitors with unparalleled peaceful enjoyment. Superb hiking trails, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, boat cruises, golf, tennis, biking, shopping, galleries, museums, carriage rides, theater, gardens and nature's own landscapes and seascapes... all await you in the Town of Mount Desert.
While most vacation amenities are provided within our villages, easy access to the entire 100 square mile area of Mount Desert Island, and the neighboring islands is available by short drive, by boat, or the free Island Explorer bus service.
